How long do clear aligners take?

Clear aligner time comes from how far the teeth must move and from how many hours you wear the trays, after photos and an exam at Smile Makers in Jeddah. Mild crowding may be estimated in months, and a longer movement takes longer. Short hours stretch the plan, and the last tray does not remove the need for a retainer.

Where does the time come from?

The duration is not a number we print before we see the teeth. Smile photos help the explanation. X-rays and the exam show crowding, the bite, and the roots.

From that, the distance each tooth must move is drawn. Distance is the root of the time.

Mild crowding of the front teeth may be estimated in months. A tooth that must rotate, a deep bite, or a wider space lengthens the drawing. The figure you hear at the consult is a range.

It is not a wedding date written into a contract. If you have a date, say it at the first visit so we can arrange what we can, without a promise that everything will be finished.

The maker's name does not change this rule. Many systems make trays. What your mouth feels is how the tray seats and how many hours you wear it, not the logo on the box. The system we use is named in the plan after the exam.

Between records and the arrival of the trays there is a wait. Nothing moves during that wait. Do not count lab weeks as if they were weeks of tooth movement. Alignment starts when you wear the first tray as written.

Review visits are part of the time as well. A missed visit, followed by wearing trays in a row with no one seeing you, can stack a small error. The error shows up as a tray that does not seat, and you go back weeks. Showing up keeps the time better than rushing at home.

Bring the tray you are wearing and the previous one. Comparing them in a few minutes shows whether the movement is tracking. Without the previous tray, the explanation rests on memory.

What lengthens the plan or stops it?

Short wear hours are the usual reason two people who started with similar photos diverge. A tray in the box moves nothing. Taking it out after lunch and forgetting it until night loses the day. The plan lengthens, or the fit stalls, and the next tray will not go in.

Inflamed gums delay the start. Moving a tooth through pockets and tartar moves inflammation with the tooth. Cleaning first can look like a delay.

It is a shortcut around a larger problem. Nerve pain or deep decay is the same. A filling or a root canal comes before the tray, and it can change the drawing.

An impacted molar, or a tooth that has not fully come in, can stop a plan that was described as a few months. X-rays show what the lip hides. If you need an extraction or time for a tooth to erupt, the duration changes.

We do not save that news until the trays arrive. We say it when we see it.

A lost tray, jumping to a later tray, or forcing a tray that does not seat all stall the plan. Call before you improvise. Bone does not speed up because you are in a hurry before a trip. Hurry produces a loose tray or a sore tooth.

How long does one tray stay?

Each tray stays for a set of days, then you switch to the next. The number of days is written on your sheet, not in this article. Moving the date forward on your own does not speed bone.

Bone needs time to accept the position. A tray changed early may not seat, and extra pressure does not mean healthier movement.

Pressure is expected on the first day or two of a new tray. It eases. If a throb stays in one tooth, or the gum swells, do not finish the tray by sitting on a painkiller.

Call. We may move you back a tray or review an edge.

How the tray seats is checked at visits. A tray that only goes on if you bite it into place for days is a sign the movement has not kept up with the drawing. A photo of you trying to seat it helps reception.

The decision is in the chair. Do not cut the plastic with scissors so it will go in.

The hours are most of the day. The tray comes out for eating and cleaning, then it goes back. Sleeping in it is part of the hours in many plans. The hour count in the clinic instructions is your reference.

What about refinement trays?

Near the end of the set, a tooth may not have reached its place. Extra trays, called a refinement, may be made. That happens, and it is not a failure because the first set ended. Ask about it before you treat the first box as a closed ending.

The number of refinement trays is not stated here for everyone. It depends on what remains, and on whether you wore the hours. Someone who shortened the hours and then asks for a quick refinement repeats the same cause. A refinement moves with the tray in the mouth, not with the request.

Sometimes small pieces are bonded to teeth so the tray can hold the movement. They may be added midway if a tooth is not rotating as drawn. Their presence lengthens the feeling.

It does not automatically lengthen every month. They are explained before they are placed. The tongue gets used to them within days for many people.

Light smoothing between teeth, if crowding needs room, is shown to you. It is minutes in a visit, not weeks of smoothing. The amount is limited. It is not done while you think all the time lives inside the tray alone.

Does the time end with the last tray?

The last tray moves teeth. The retainer holds them. Teeth tend to drift toward their old positions.

Without a retainer, crowding can return within months for some people, and more slowly for others. Count the retainer inside the time you will live with, not only inside the time in an ad.

The retainer may be a night tray, a wire behind the front teeth, or both. The type is chosen for your bite and for what you will actually do. A fixed wire does not depend on your memory every night.

A night tray does. Stopping early brings front-tooth crowding back for many people who leave the retainer.

How long you wear a retainer is not written as one number here. The dentist sets it when movement ends and reviews it if a tooth shifts. A broken wire should be reported.

Do not tighten it with tweezers. A sharp end scratches the tongue until we see it.

Replacing a retainer when it cracks is part of keeping the result, not a surprise ending of treatment. Bring it to a cleaning visit. Losing it with no replacement quietly gives back the time you spent in the trays.

If the wire breaks while you are outside Jeddah, cover the end with wax if you have it so it does not cut the tongue, then contact the clinic. Do not cut the wire with nail scissors. A cut leaves an edge, and it can loosen the bond on a neighboring tooth. A photo of the end is enough for reception to judge how soon you should be seen.

What to ask about your schedule

Ask for a range in months for your case after records, not for a duration you heard about someone else. Ask what lengthens it if the hours are short. Ask whether a refinement is possible, and whether the retainer is part of the talk from day one. A plan with no retainer is an incomplete plan.

Ask about a wedding or a trip. Sometimes the visible stretch can be arranged for a calmer week, without a full finish. Waiting is calmer than leaving the trays out for weeks.

Heat in a Jeddah car warps a tray left on the seat. The case in your bag is part of protecting the time. It is not a travel detail to skip.

A booking is a request with your name, a Saudi mobile number, the clear aligner service, and privacy consent. There is no clock time on the form. Reception calls during opening hours.

WhatsApp is 055 117 0327. There is one clinic in Jeddah, Smile Makers. Bring photos for explanation.

The duration is estimated in the chair.

Results differ from person to person. Fixed braces may be clearer for a movement a tray does not hold. We do not name one path longer or shorter as a rule.

We name the other path when the tooth needs it. If you ask about Tabby, Tabby accepts or declines the application, and that does not change the number of trays.
