Crowns and bridges
Treatment

Fixed crowns and bridges are a crown that covers a tooth, or a bridge that replaces a missing tooth by resting on the neighbors. At Smile Makers in Jeddah a crown is discussed after a root canal when the walls have become fragile. A bridge is compared with an implant after the bone is seen, and the result differs from person to person.

What are fixed crowns and bridges?

Fixed crowns and bridges are a crown over a tooth that is still there, or a bridge that fills the space of a missing tooth. A crown is cemented on. You do not take it out at night to clean it. A bridge rests on the teeth beside the gap after those teeth are prepared.

At Smile Makers in Jeddah the decision follows a bite exam. We take x-rays if the nerve or the root length is in doubt. The ceramic is made outside the mouth and cemented here. The lab name is not on a public page.

The ceramic type is not either.

When is a crown discussed after a root canal?

After a root canal the tooth loses the nutrition that came through the pulp. If the walls are thin, the tooth can break under chewing. A crown wraps what remains and spreads the force around the tooth. If enough wall is left, a filling that covers the weak part may be enough.

That is decided tooth by tooth, in the chair.

Does the clinic place a crown after every root canal? We do not write that as a rule for everyone.

Until the cover is decided, do not bite bone or nuts on that tooth. A temporary filling between visits is weaker. If it comes off, call. Food inside an open tooth brings the problem back.

Bridge or implant?

A bridge shapes the two teeth beside the gap, then carries a tooth in the middle. That arrangement fits when those neighbors already need crowns. If both neighbors are sound, an implant is placed in the bone and leaves them uncut. An implant needs months of bone healing before the crown.

A bridge is cemented after the teeth are prepared and the work comes back.

The choice follows the amount of bone, the state of the neighbors, and the time that suits you. The dental implants page explains healing and smoking. The service name on a booking form does not replace an x-ray.

What happens before cementing?

We prepare the tooth so the crown sits and does not hold the bite open. A temporary crown may stay on until the ceramic arrives. It protects the prepared tooth, and it is weaker than the final one. Do not chew gum or dry bread with it.

If it comes off, call us. Do not glue a pharmacy product onto bare dentin.

Before final cement we try the piece while you close. Say if one tooth touches before the others. Say if an edge bothers the tongue. An adjustment at that moment is simpler than cutting the ceramic days later.

How do you care for the edge?

Floss at the crown edge keeps tartar from drawing a line over time. Pass the floss, then pull it out to the side. Do not yank it upward on a new crown. A soft brush is enough.

Tea and coffee stain around the edge more than they stain the ceramic itself. Smoking speeds that edge color in the first weeks.

Cold sensitivity may last a few days, then ease for most people. A throbbing pain in one tooth is a reason to call. Do not rely on a painkiller alone if the throb stays or the gum swells at the edge.

What changes the cost?

The price of a crown or a bridge is not on this page. An offer, if there is one, lives on the offers page only. The fee changes with the number of teeth, the ceramic, nerve or gum treatment before preparation, and a temporary if one is needed.

Ask what the figure includes. Ask whether a root canal on one tooth in the middle of a bridge is billed alone. Two photos are not a quote.

Can I pay with Tabby?

You can ask to pay with Tabby. Approval comes from Tabby, not from the clinic. Tabby may approve the application, approve part of it, or decline it. Instalments do not change the ceramic.

They do not turn a bridge into an implant.

If the application is declined, you and reception agree how to pay. A painful or broken tooth is not delayed because instalments did not go through. A cosmetic part can wait if the tooth is covered and comfortable.

Book with your name, mobile number, and fixed crowns and bridges. You do not pick a clock time on the site. Reception calls during opening hours. The clinic WhatsApp is 055 117 0327.

Write whether the tooth has had a root canal, or whether the gap sits between two sound teeth.

A dentist at the clinic reviewed this page. Last updated: October 22, 2026.

It may suit

  • A tooth after a root canal, with thin walls under the bite
  • A wide break a filling will not close, with a sound root
  • A missing tooth, and the neighbors already need coverage
  • You want a bridge compared with an implant after a bone x-ray

It may not suit

  • Swollen gum around the tooth that has not been treated
  • A root broken under the gum, with no walls left to cover
  • You expect a lab name or a ceramic type from this page
  • Both neighbors are sound and a bridge is chosen with no implant discussion

Steps

  1. 01

    Exam

We look at the tooth, gums, and bite, and take x-rays if the nerve is in doubt.

  2. 02

    Preparation

We shape the tooth so the crown sits without holding the bite open.

  3. 03

    Try-in

We try the work on the teeth and check the bite and edges before cement.

  4. 04

    Cementing

We cement the crown or bridge, then check that the teeth meet comfortably.

Aftercare

Pass floss at the edge and pull it out to the side
Keep gum off a temporary crown if one is in place
Call if the temporary comes off, and do not use household glue
Return if one tooth throbs or the gum stays red at the edge

You can ask Tabby about instalments. Approval comes from Tabby.

Questions

A shell can last for years if the edge stays sealed and the gums stay calm. There is no single lifespan for every mouth. Ice, grinding, and using teeth as tools can shorten it. Come back if a corner chips.

Sometimes a thin layer of enamel is removed so the shell does not stick out. Some teeth need little or none. The dentist decides tooth by tooth after seeing the enamel and the bite. A no-prep line is not a promise for every mouth.

A veneer is a shell on one tooth or a few. A Hollywood smile usually means the front teeth that show together, so one tooth does not turn lighter than its neighbors. The exam sets the number, not the service name.

The shade is compared with your skin under clinic light, then checked in daylight when that is possible. A very white shade can look harsh when you talk. You see the shells at the try-in before permanent bonding.
